Baker Group is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Human Resources and Safety Coordinator to support both HR and Safety operations at our Cedar Rapids location. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees, helping to deliver seamless onboarding, training, compliance, benefits support and safety administration.This position also plays an essential role in maintaining a positive workplace culture while ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting workforce development, and strengthening company-wide safety initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is highly organized and enjoys collaborating across departments.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Human Resources SupportCoordinate onboarding for union and non-union team members both in-office and at job sites.Support time record collection and verification.Assist with recruiting activities, interview coordination and intern programs.Support employee engagement initiatives including, but not limited to employee events, flu shot clinics, resource groups, etc.Provide benefits support, including open enrollment assistance.Assist with background checks, drug screenings, and insurance documentation tracking.Provide employees with technical support for HR systems access.Track and manage training certifications and third-party credentialing. Safety AdministrationCoordinate and track safety training programs (ClickSafety, Gatefeed, Training Vault, third-party platforms such as ISN and AVETTA).Monitor certification expirations and continuing education requirements, including CEUs.Schedule safety meetings and trainings.Conduct and coordinate drug and alcohol testing for new hires, job sites and post-accident.Maintain safety supplies and PPE inventory.Assist with tracking and submitting boot and safety glasses reimbursements.Support safety communications through the intranet and other internal platforms.Assist with process improvements aligned with company safety goals. Administrative and Cross-Functional SupportSupport Safety Managers and Specialists with administrative needs.Assist with performance management tracking and personnel records in HR systems.Support the coordination of staff meetings and note taking processes or summaries.Collaborate with HR and Safety teams to ensure consistent service delivery.MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAssociate degree in HR, Business, Safety or related field, or equivalent experienceMinimum of three years of experience in HR, safety administration or administrative supportExperience in construction or union environments preferredFamiliarity with Workers’ Compensation processesStrong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)Experience with HR systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred)Familiarity with safety training platforms and compliance tracking systemsExperience with Bluebeam or similar PDF tools is a plus MENTAL AND PHYSICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTAL FUNCTIONSStrong attention to detail and commitment to confidentialityExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environmentProactive mindset with strong organizational skillsAbility to build partnerships across all levels of the organization ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITYProlonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer and participating in remote meetings. Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally.This role may require occasional travel to job sites to onboard new team members or other needs, as well as monthly visits (1-2 times) to the Ankeny location.EQUIPMENT/TOOLSLaptop ComputerBaker Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
