Irving group of companiesRelocation costs (if applicable)ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, the Senior Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist is a leader who is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and safety of all. At the Macon facility, Safety is our Value. With that in mind, this leader must have a strong focus on regulatory compliance and continuous improvement of the Health, Safety and Environmental system in place. They will be expected to lead by example by developing and strengthening policies, procedures, and best practices that increase awareness of safety and the environment across the facility.SafetyReinforce safe work habits to all who enter the facility.Mitigate risk to employees by assessing and addressing safety concerns, escalating where necessary.Conduct and/or support any investigations related to safety incidents injuries, etc., including liaising with internal and external stakeholders.Ensure safe work practices and relevant procedures are always followed.Promote participation in site wide safety programs, including the Hazard ID and SEE program through coaching and communication.Review entries and compile data related to site wide safety programs.Leadership & DevelopmentEstablish goals and development plans and review these with the HSE Manager. Support the JHSC committee.Continuous ImprovementSupport creation and maintenance of safety policy and procedures, with a focus on regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.Demonstrate support through floor presence, meetings, actions, and behaviors to influence employee buy-in and lead by example. Communication / Engagement / MoraleCoach, train and interact with employees regarding safety matters.Escalate safety concerns that require or impact multiple teams, larger/complex mitigation measures or other support.Ensure the HSE Team is aware of initiatives/items impacting the department and site. QualificationsJob Requirements:Proven ability to lead others by example and manage a safe work environmentKnowledge of applicable safety regulationsHigh level of personal initiative, requiring minimal direction and supervisionKnowledge of the facility (equipment and processes) with a focus on regulatory compliance and continuous improvement of applicable safety systems/programsEffective problem-solving skills, able to recognize and anticipate issues in advanceAbility to coach and influence others and maintain strong working relationshipsAbility to lead injury/incident investigations and conduct root cause analysisExcellent communication skills and attention to detail; andProficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPointEducation:Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Diploma in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or any related fieldsSafety CertificationExperience: 5 Years minimum experience in a related Health & Safety or Environmental role
