GROUP: CLASSIFIED SALARY: Security Salary Schedule FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt WORK DAYS PER FISCAL YEAR: 244 HOLIDAYS: 16 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ SUMMARY: The Security & Safety Manager provides leadership and oversight of the district’s comprehensive security and safety programs. This position is responsible for ensuring the protection of students, staff, visitors, facilities, and assets through effective security operations, regulatory compliance, risk management, and emergency preparedness. The role supervises security personnel, coordinates with internal and external partners, and leads the development and implementation of safety and security protocols that support a safe and secure learning and working environment. ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Security Operations Oversee daily security operations, including access control, surveillance systems, and incident response. Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and protocols. Lead response efforts during security incidents and emergencies. Conduct security assessments, investigations, and risk analyses. Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency responders as needed. Safety Program Management Administer and monitor workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies. Conduct safety inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations; implement corrective actions. Coordinate and facilitate required safety training and monthly drills. Maintain safety records, documentation, and reporting. Staff and Vendor Oversight Supervise and support security staff, including scheduling, training, and performance oversight. Oversee contracted security services and ensure performance expectations are met. Emergency Preparedness and Compliance Maintain and implement emergency response and evacuation plans. Ensure compliance with applicable safety and security regulations. Prepare reports and recommendations for leadership regarding risks, incidents, and program improvements. Systems and Support Utilize systems such as Maximo or similar platforms to track incidents, work orders, and safety data. Respond to safety or security incidents outside of normal business hours as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in security, safety, law enforcement, or risk management. Demonstrated experience in a supervisory, lead, or coordination role. Valid driver’s license. Ability to obtain and maintain any required certifications or clearances. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office technology. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Safety Management, Public Administration, or a related field. Experience in a K–12 or educational environment. Prior experience serving as a safety officer or in a compliance-focused role. Training or certification in emergency management, incident command systems (ICS), or workplace safety (e.g., OSHA). Workplace safety regulations, hazard identification, and accident prevention strategies. Emergency preparedness, crisis response, and incident command protocols. Applicable federal, state, tribal, and local laws, regulations, and compliance requirements related to safety and security. Security technologies and systems, including surveillance, access control, and incident tracking platforms. ABILITY TO: Lead and supervise staff, establish priorities, and ensure accountability for results. Analyze complex situations, assess risk, and make sound, timely decisions during routine operations and emergencies. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational plans. Conduct thorough investigations and prepare clear, concise reports. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with diverse stakeholders. Build collaborative relationships with internal teams, external partners, and emergency response agencies. Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in sensitive situations. Use standard office software and specialized systems (e.g., Maximo or similar platforms).
